International Women’s Day celebrated in “Our Cultural Home” at Iraqi Communist Party headquarters International Women’s Day was marked by a celebration on 8th March 2012 at the headquarters of the Iraqi Communist Party at Andulus Square in central Baghdad. The celebration took place in the hall of “Our Cultural Home” Forum, and was organized by the Cultural Committee. The program of the event included the presentation of certificates and plaques honoring a number of creative women in the fields art, media and education, who have done their best to build a better Iraq. The media worker Majida Babili spoke about the role of women, the significance of the 8th of March and the need to fight for women’s legitimate rights. The program included songs, by Jawad Muhsen, and a performance on a traditional musical instrument, the Jozah (the Iraqi violin) by the young artist Shahad Jamal Abdul-Aziz. Poems were also recited. Messages of greeting from several democratic and civil society organizations were read out. |
