Football tournament in Baqouba to celebrate 50th Anniversary of 14 July Revolution

As part of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 14 July 1958 Revolution, Iraqi communists in Baqouba (Diyala province) organised a football tournament. The sport event was launched on 14 July (before the recent large-scale security operation started) and continued until 16 August 2008. 15 youthful teams participated, with Al-Jeel team winning the final game. Medals were also presented to the best player of the tournament and the highest scoring footballer.

Sport activities are playing an important role in keeping young Iraqis away from the culture of violence and promoting peace and tolerance.
