Mufid al-Jazairy in Kadimiyya (Baghdad): Culture is the only means!

Comrade Mufid al-Jazairy in Kadhimiya (Baghdad):
Culture is the only means!

The Intellectual and Cultural Forum in the Kadhimiya district in Baghdad, hosted Comrade Mufid al-Jazairy at a public seminar on Friday afternoon 10 May 2013 on Iraqi culture and its tasks.
The garden of the Forum was packed with daughters and sons of Kadhimiya. Comrade Al-Jazairy stressed the enormity of the tasks that the country is facing on the level of construction, re-construction and laying foundations, due to the devastation that still prevails in all the fields of life, services and production, despite the fact that ten years have passed after the fall Saddam's dictatorial regime. There is also the enormity of what is required in terms of the reconstruction of souls and ridding the Iraqi citizen of the consequences of distortion and destruction of values. These were targets during the tyranny of the dictatorial regime, and they are today the basis of an environment which is conducive for the sustainability of terror and rampant corruption.
Al-Jazairy explained that confronting this reality, and undertaking the afore-mentioned major tasks mentioned, require the adoption of elements of a culture that addresses the mind and influences it, and that provides the education and preparation of a qualified productive person. Such a person is indispensible for proceeding along the path of reconstruction and progress. These elements are science, thought and knowledge in general. They also include research, study, learning .. etc. To achieve this, there must be a comprehensive re-examination of the philosophy and system of education in our country, the development of schools and universities, and their curricula and performance on the basis of science and its modern methods.
In addition, the elements of culture that address human feelings, emotions and passion, and ensure his upbringing, refinement and equipping him with lofty national values and humanitarian values, must be adopted. They ensure that he turns into a good citizen that the country needs as much as its need for the qualified and productive individual. These elements are literature, art and creative forms of artistic expression in general.
Comrade Al-Jazairy also stressed what the country badly needs today is, in the end, the good qualified and productive citizen, whose presence and involvement in the process of material and spiritual construction of our country can only be ensured through culture; that addresses both the mind and the soul.
Al-Jazairy concluded by saying: “It is therefore essential to provide unlimited and unconditional support for culture, and in all its fields. It is the means for the completion of the tasks of reconstruction, modernization and comprehensive progress, which are long overdue.

Iraqi CP supports call for vote recount

People’s Unity electoral list demands
a recount of votes

Election results continue to impact the overall Iraqi political scene, especially after the announcement of [preliminary] election results, despite calls for a postponement and for a manual recount of the votes, wholly or partially, due to the existence of large-scale fraud and manipulation.

The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Iraqi Communist Party, Hamid Majeed Mousa, stressed that the election results announced by the Higher Electoral Commission last Friday evening (26th March) are preliminary results, and the candidates still have an opportunity to present their objections.

This comes at a time when the deadline for the submission of appeals is Monday 29th March, according to the Electoral Commission.

In a statement to “Iraq Beituna Agency”, Mousa said that People’s Unity (“Ittihad Al-Shaab”) list has a lot of objections regarding the fairness and integrity of these elections,” asserting “our determination to present our point of view and objections of the list to the Electoral Commission and the Constitutional Court, and calling for a recount in many provinces.”

Mousa pointed out that “the parliamentary elections were marred by a lot of manipulation and lack of integrity in all its stages, which has been reflected negatively on the share of votes of many lists.”

For his part, Mufid al-Jazairy, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, said: “The electoral process has witnessed many forms of manipulation and fraud,” and “totally lacked transparency”. He added that the election results “would have certainly changed if an end was put to this fraud.”
Al-Jazairy explained to “Voices of Iraq” news agency that “in every stage of the electoral process, especially in the stages of vote sorting and counting, and in entering data in computers, there were many types of manipulation”.

Raid Fahmi, member of the Political Bureau of the Party, held the Electoral Commission and the Electoral Law responsible for the negative repercussions that have occurred in the elections and the resulting injustice and violations of the rights of voters.
Fahmi told the Iraqi National News Agency that “the election law was totally unfair and we raised objections to it from the beginning. Under this law, votes belonging to our list were given to others.”
He added: “The Electoral Commission has contributed to the loss of our votes because of its incompetence, in addition to violations and fraud that took place on the polling day and afterwards. There was room for manipulation of the election results.”

Iraqi CP's mass meeting in Babil province

At a public meeting in Hilla
Mufid al- Jazairy: Kirkuk issue is a mine
in the path of endorsing the election law

Mufid al- Jazairy, member of the Political Bureau of the Iraqi Communist Party, said that the ongoing conflict in Parliament is part of the electoral process that had begun with the provincial elections earlier this year, which produced a new situation and fear among some parties that they could lose their positions after realizing that the voters had let them down.

Al-Jazairy was speaking at a public mass meeting organized on 23 October 2009 by the party's provincial organization in Hilla in Babil governorate (province) in central Iraq. The meeting was chaired by Dr Ali Ibrahim, member of the Central Committee. Comrade Al-Jazairy said: "The Party has sought to draw lessons from previous electoral experiences, and to formulate an election law that would prevent manipulation and fraud. But a mine has been placed in the way, which is the issue of Kirkuk that has nothing to do with the election law because it had been dealt with in the Constitution. However, some have insisted on keeping this mine in place, because they want to conduct the elections without making any amendment to the election law."

He added: "The election law which is to be adopted is not yet known," pointing out that "there are influential forces that claim to be in favor of the open electoral list, while they actually fight hard behind the scenes to keep the closed list system."

"Our battle has been continuing since the beginning of the year, and all the struggles that are taking place, whether inside or outside the Parliament, are struggles over the elections. The new Iraqi state has not yet been built, and each party is exerting efforts to contribute to shaping the character of this state according to its whims. Today we are in an unenviable state, as MPs behave in Parliament under directives from their respective blocs, with their positions being determined by their political leaders. These political leaderships should therefore be held accountable and responsible. It is better to call upon these leaders to settle the dispute over the election law instead of the National Political Council."

Al-Jazairy said: "More than six years after the fall of the former regime, there has been no movement forward. No steps have been taken to resolve the issue of unemployment; no progress has been achieved in the area of services, and nothing has been done to solve the difficult problem of housing. What is required is to act with vigor to bring about change.

"The composition of the Parliament should be changed, and the means for change is in our hands. If the Parliament remains unchanged, the people will suffer enormously. We must do our duty, because the only force capable of achieving the objectives of Iraq is the patriots who care about the homeland. We believe that the future belongs to the democratic current, because it is the only one capable of getting Iraq out of this critical impasse, and we rely on ourselves and on the broad current which is today facing a lot of problems."

He said: "The Communists want a real change, and this is what awaits us in the coming period. We should mobilize and muster our forces, and we have to show others the correct path, urge them to go to the polls, and explain to them the right option whose triumph would ensure building the country."

Iraqi CP criticizes turning elections into battles of political sloganeering

Iraqi CP criticizes turning provincial elections
into battles of political sloganeering

Mufid al-Jazairy, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Iraqi Communist Party, has criticized turning the provincial elections, that will take place on 31 January 2009, into battles of political slogans or settling accounts that have nothing to do with the interests of the people.

In a statement given to "Tareeq Al-Shaab", the central organ of the party, he stressed the need to focus on the issues of services and providing job opportunities for the unemployed.

Al-Jazairy warned against not taking legal action against those are found guilty of financial corruption, among officials and others. He explained that both phenomena, the abuse of power and the continued financial and administrative corruption, are among the key reasons that make the Iraqi voter unenthusiastic to go to the ballot box in the provincial elections.

He added that Iraqi citizens are still demanding the implementation of promises and the provision of all prerequisites for a prosperous life, including plans for housing, tackling unemployment and rebuilding the infrastructure that have been obstructed due to widespread corruption in government departments. He called for swift and effective action to regulate the spending of funds allocated to the provincial councils. "There are quarters that seek to transform the forthcoming election process into a battle of political slogans and the exploit some circumstances to serve their interest, while turning a blind eye to the poor performance of those responsible for the the misappropriation of funds earmarked for national programs and tackling unemployment," he said.
